Air Force Rolls Out New ‘E-Series’

Air Force Rolls Out New 'E-Series'

(TacticalNews.com) – The US military is the most powerful in the world, thanks to its ability to quickly adapt and create innovative technologies. There’s always room for improvement, even for the best in the world. And, that’s exactly what they are doing.

On Sept. 14, the US Air Force announced they would begin designating any weapon, satellite or aircraft created using digital engineering with an “e-” prefix to showcase innovative technologies when developing future arsenals.

Airforce Secretary Barbara Barret made the announcement during the 2020 virtual Air, Space, and Cyberspace conference. “X-planes represented technological innovation” at one time, she stated, adding the e-sats and e-planes “will join them in making history.”

Digital engineering is essential as the Air Force continues modernizing. Additionally, it gives designers and developers more options and the ability to alter blueprints as they create new systems quickly. Unfortunately, the “E-series” designation is only temporary and would only apply during a program’s design and development phase.

Emerging technologies will continue to play a role in future defense strategies. It’s a good thing the current administration favors expanded military spending for innovation, unlike previous ones.
