(TacticalNews.com) – Tensions are growing between the US and Iran after Iranian gunboats recently swarmed US warships. President Trump took a hard stance against the Iranian regime after the incident, giving the Navy permission to sink aggressive vessels. Early Monday morning while practicing a military drill, Iran made a grave and costly mistake.

During the exercise, a C-802 missile was fired toward an Iranian Navy destroyer — by another Iranian destroyer. The missile caused extensive damage to the vessel and around 40 service members were missing after the event. Iran has stated that 19 sailors died and 15 were injured.
Friendly fire is always tragic for those involved, but this strike shows that Iran is willing to attack any perceived threat to their Navy. It is safe to assume the incident will further strain the already tense relations between the US and Iran. Is it possible that Iran was trying to stage an attack and blame the US? Yes — though it is doubtful. This was likely just a lapse in judgment that caused an unfortunate loss of life.
