(TacticalNews.com) – The US military isn’t afraid to spend money, the Navy sometimes being the main focus. All that money isn’t for salaries, either; sometimes the military gets shiny new toys. This time the new “toy” is like something from a video game.
As with any new weapon, there needs to be some testing, exactly what the Navy did on May 16th. The USS Portland, an amphibious transport dock ship, successfully shot down an unmanned aircraft. However, no ammunition was used in the training session. Instead, it was like something from a sci-fi movie. The Navy contends that by conducting these advanced at-sea tests, they gather valuable information on the capabilities of the new weapon. With an increasing number of threats, the Navy needs advanced weapons to defend itself in an ever-changing battlefield.
