(TacticalNews.com) – It’s that time of year again. The water is calling your name, fish are starting to bite good and you just can’t wait to get out in the canoe. The only issue is that the world has changed a lot in the last year, and you may need to defend yourself at a moment’s notice. Is there a safe way to have a firearm on board, even if it isn’t on you personally?
The above video covers a few ways to carry a handgun on your kayak. The same methods carry over to situations involving other small boats, too, such as canoes and rafts.
Of course, the biggest issue with carrying a gun on the water is losing it. Once it hits the water, it’s as good as gone. You can mitigate this risk by using a locking holster, or by attaching a small rope, lanyard, or paracord to the gun itself. This same method could also be used to secure your holster.
Another issue to keep in mind is that when something is wet, it can become harder to grip. Keeping your firearm in a waistband holster could help you avoid this situation. Or, there are aftermarket grips designed to work well even when a gun is wet.
It’s nice to relax on the water or next to a pool. However, the need to protect yourself doesn’t take the day off simply because you do. Check out how you can carry at the pool, the beach, and other waterways.
