Prepare to Survive When Water Is Scarce

(TacticalNews.com) – Water is without question one of the most vital aspects of our survival. In as little as three days without water, the average human being can face a horrific number of health issues – including death. While most people are used to just turning the faucet on to get unlimited quantities of this life-giving liquid, it isn’t always so easy.

During a drought, for instance, water becomes the most valuable resource a person has. So how can one prepare to face a time when water becomes scarce? The following video from Rogue Preparedness has a few tips:

Droughts are a very real possibility, no matter where you live. Unlike other severe storms and disasters, droughts can take years to reach their full effect, but when they do, the results can be fatal.

Likely the biggest way to survive a drought is to be prepared for one. You can do so by:

  • Using mulch, which helps keep moisture in the ground, allowing you to water your plants less often.
  • Replace “thirsty” plants with plants that are drought resistant.
  • Utilize drip irrigation, which greatly reduces the amount of water you use by directly delivering water to your plants’ roots.
  • If you choose to mow your grass, allow it to grow to at least four inches and keep it at this length to help retain water in the ground.
  • Conserve water.
  • Stock up on water.

Once struck with a drought, you need to seriously prioritize where your water goes. After all, the most important thing for you to do is to stay hydrated. You can conserve your water use by utilizing a dishwasher or flushing your toilet only when necessary. Keep in mind that, depending on your situation, it may be better to bug out to a location where there is an abundance of water, even if it’s simply going to your parents’ house.

Another important aspect of survival that’s often overlooked is hygiene. Of course, hygiene during a drought may be difficult, but it’s not impossible; check out these hygiene methods that don’t require the use of water in order to stay hygienic and conserve water.
